“Am I eating in a healthier way"????
“Fast..fast..fast..”!!!!!!
Yes, the modern lifestyle is sooo fast…...
Fast in thoughts. fast in relation, fast in communication and even very very fast in eating …
Now…
Close your eyes... take a deep breath...
This is the time for you to think a question “Are u eating healthy ?????”
“समदोषः समाग्निश्च समधातु मलक्रियः ।
प्रसन्ना त्मेन्द्रीय मनाः स्वस्थ ई त्यभिधीते ।। ” ( S.Su. 15/41)
Ayurveda explains “Swastha” (ie, Health) as a harmonious situation of doshas, dhathus, malas, agni, and eternal happiness of indriyas, mind and aatma . This is a broad, deep concept of physical and mental balancing of health.
As human beings, we all are in the quest of being healthy. Ayurveda – “science of life” is one and only concluding holistic answer, as a philosophy of Ayurveda focuses on a person's health in a preventative, long term way and the Ayurvedic diet is a whole medical system, where you eat according to your mind-body type.
आरोग्यम् भोजनाधीनां ... A beautiful quote by Kasyapacharya- reveals health is based on Ahara (food) we take. This underlines this topic of discussion here.
Wholesome food & drink are pleasing to indriyas and conducive to health, only if we take in accordance with the rules which are useful for all living beings. If consumed according to rules, they provide good fuel for digestion. When digestion is good that itself promote physical strength as well as mental health
“Aharana”- that means which draws energy both physically and mentally is the common characteristic of Ahara. So, based on this acharyas divide Ahara in to many interesting classifications, very practically reliable classification is by Kahsyapa– ie
1.Asitham (all that is swallowed)
2. Peetham (all that is drunk)
3. Khadhitham (that is chewed)
4. Leedham (that is lickable like lehya)
This broader way of classification will help you to categorize what all we are eating.
Ayurveda science is so beautiful where we are suggested to have food based on some factors. Acharya Charaka emphasized 8 factors for consuming food, for maintaining health. They are Prakrithi (nature of food), Karana (processing methods for food), Samyoga (combinations of food), Raashi (quality of food), Desha (food-related to habitat), Kala (acc.to seasons), Upayokta (food as per person who is taking ), Upayogasamstha (rules for taking food ).
We need little more explanation for rules of having food because by reading this u will feel what we are missing is these 10 golden rules for food intake. Those 10 rules are:
Intake of food :
1. Should be warm
2.Should be unctuous
3. Proper quantity
4. After digestion of the previous meal
5. No contradictory potencies
6. Have in a proper place
7. Have food without Hurry & Worry
8. Not so slow
9. don’t take while talking, laughing
10. By consideration of himself
After reading if you may feel wonderful, as u may not be following the 10/10. Or maybe some and very few all.
Now, this is your turn to think First Question to ourselves
“Qn 1.: Am I eating in a healthier way ???
